A friend of Ricardo's, Henry Siekaniec, had called Parma PD for the welfare check of Ricardo after receiving a text message from Ricardo which stated, "Goodbye." Parma PD officers and Officer Jim Mack responded to the apartment to conduct the welfare check of Ricardo. Upon arrival, officers and Officer Mack noticed two suspected suicide notes taped to the outside of Ricardo's apartment door. Shortly thereafter, a Knollwood Apartment maintenance man had arrived and unlocked the door to Ricardo's apartment to let the officers and Officer Mack inside to attempt to locate Ricardo. Ricardo was not located inside his apartment. However, another suspected suicide note had been located on Ricardo's desk inside the apartment which also located a Parma Armory receipt on Ricardo's desk where Ricardo had purchased a Taurus firearm on October 13, 2025. At that time, officers and Officer Mack went to the parking lot of the Knollwood Apartments to attempt to locate Ricardo's vehicle, a red Toyota Corolla. When the vehicle had not been located, officers patrolled the immediate area, including local Metro Parks, in an attempt to locate Ricardo's vehicle. Officer Mack requested Parma PD Dispatchers to conduct an "emergency ping" of Ricardo's cell phone to determine his geographical location. Parma PD Dispatchers completed a successful "emergency ping" of Ricardo's cell phone through his cell phone provider, AT&T. The cell phone was in the area of Brookpark Road and Knollwood Drive in the City of Parma, OH. Parma PD officers responded to that area, and Parma PD Officer Chris Smith located a red Toyota Corolla matching the description of Ricardo's vehicle leaving the parking lot of Wal-Mart and turning westbound onto Brookpark Road. Officer Smith maneuvered his Parma PD Cruiser behind the vehicle and ran the registration plate confirming the vehicle belonged to Ricardo. While traveling westbound on Brookpark Road behind Ricardo's vehicle, Officer Smith activated his emergency lights on his marked Parma PD Cruiser to conduct a traffic stop and check Ricardo's welfare. Upon attempting to conduct a traffic stop of Ricardo's vehicle, Ricardo did not initially stop the vehicle. When Ricardo eventually stopped his vehicle, Officer Smith exited his Parma PD Cruiser and went on Radio traffic to transmit about Ricardo reaching into the backseat of his vehicle and obtaining a firearm. Ricardo opened his door and exited his vehicle with a firearm in his right hand. Ricardo began walking toward Officer Smith and other officers. Officers provided verbal commands to Ricardo to "put the gun down." Ricardo kept going towards the officers with the gun and officers fired shots at Ricardo. Ricardo was struck and he fell to the ground in the roadway. Officers requested medical assistance, approached Ricardo, handcuffed him, secured his firearm, and began rendering medical aid to him. Shortly thereafter, the Parma Fire Department arrived on scene. Ricardo was immediately transported by the Parma Fire Department ambulance Squad to Metro Health Emergency Department in Cleveland, Ohio. Subsequently, Ricardo succumbed to the gunshot wounds."
