As deputies prepared to breach the residence, they made multiple announcements identifying themselves as members of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Marked law enforcement vehicles were on scene with emergency lights activated, and the SWAT Bearcat was positioned outside the residence. Despite these clear indications that law enforcement was at the residence, the suspect, 29-year-old Anthony Cusati, fired multiple rounds through the door at the deputies as they attempted to make entry. Two of the deputies were struck by gunfire. Both deputies have been released from the hospital and are expected to recover. The suspect, Anthony Cusati, is in custody. He has been arrested on charges, 12 counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, Two counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, Shooting into an occupied vehicle, Resisting arrest with violence. Additional narcotics-related charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
