The family was celebrating the fact that one of its members, identified as 37-year-old Braulio Manuel Macías Saltos, had regained his freedom. Macías Saltos had spent at least seven months at the Guayaquil Social Rehabilitation Center in Ecuador due to alleged extortion. At around 8:00 p.m. on the aforementioned date, in the Santa Elena-Guayaquil community, the celebration came to an end; the individual met his death while celebrating, when two motorcycle-riding hitmen arrived to take his life. Security footage shows an individual wearing a black jacket arriving and firing multiple shots at Macias Saltos and his companions, then fleeing on a black motorcycle with an accomplice who was waiting nearby. Braulio was taken to the local hospital with injuries and passed away in the early hours of Thursday, October 7. According to the authorities' report, he sustained four gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. Meanwhile, three of his companions were wounded and taken to a public hospital in Santa Elena, where they are recovering.
