Gabriela, the young woman who fell from an amusement ride on the night of Tuesday, October 20, during the 2026 Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivals, passed away after being transported to a hospital to receive medical attention. The City Council of Los Cabos confirmed the death through a statement dated this Wednesday, October 21, in which it noted that the young woman lost her life despite the efforts of healthcare personnel. As of that report, her age, full name, and the injuries she suffered had not been disclosed. According to the initial report from the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Risk Management, the fall occurred in the amusement ride area of the fairgrounds, due to causes that are still to be determined. Emergency personnel provided care at the scene, and paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross transported the young woman to a hospital located next to the fairgrounds. Following the incident, Civil Protection secured and suspended the operation of the ride involved. It also announced a comprehensive inspection of the attractions to verify their safety measures and the documentation of the private service providers that operate them. In an initial public statement, the municipal president (mayor), Christian Agúndez Gómez, reported that he had instructed that support and accompaniment be provided to the young woman and her family, as well as carrying out a preventive inspection of the amusement rides. Later, according to the statement confirming the death, the mayor paused during the closing concert to express his solidarity with Gabriela's family. "Today, with the same spirit with which we unite to celebrate, we must unite to stand with Gabriela's family. It could have been any of us. You are not alone," he expressed. The accident occurred on the final day of the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivals, scheduled from October 16 to 20 and organized jointly by the festival committee, departments of the Los Cabos City Council, and state authorities. Performances by Alemán, Luis R Conríquez, and Netón Vega had been announced for the closing. The municipal government reported that the Attorney General's Office of the State of Baja California Sur will be the authority responsible for determining the causes of the incident and any legal liability in accordance with the law. Likewise, it stated that it will collaborate with the investigations and provide support to the family. At the time of the release, no results from technical expert evaluations or conclusions regarding the circumstances of the fall had been made public.
