Silva is identified as the perpetrator behind the murder of 42-year-old cook Joseane Santos de Araújo. The decision was reached during a custody hearing, ordering that he remain in custody while the legal proceedings unfold. The crime took place on Friday night (October 30) in front of the bar where Joseane had been working for only four days, in the Sertão (hinterland) region of Alagoas. Security camera footage captured the moment the two argued, prompting the victim to ask customers to call the police. Enatan grabbed the cook’s arms forcefully and then inflicted approximately 20 stab wounds. Even after she collapsed, the assailant continued to kick and stomp on the victim’s head. A forensic report from the Scientific Police confirmed more than 20 wounds caused by a bladed weapon, including injuries consistent with an attempt to defend herself. Enatan was arrested around 5:30 a.m. this Saturday—roughly ten hours after the crime—in the Serra do Camonga area, located in the municipality’s rural zone. The operation involved teams from the 7th Military Police Battalion, the Intelligence Directorate (DINT), and the Civil Police. The suspect’s father, identified as Hélio, cooperated with authorities by revealing that his son was hiding on a family property. Lines of investigation and the suspect’s account The Civil Police are pursuing two primary lines of investigation. The first, and most prominent, is that of femicide: it is alleged that Joseane had rejected romantic advances from Enatan, who sought a relationship with her. The second possibility involves an outstanding financial debt. The suspect’s father stated that the cook had borrowed R$ 1,500 from his son to purchase furniture and household appliances—such as a stove, a gas cylinder, and a sofa—but failed to repay the loan. In his statement to the police, Enatan himself cited this debt as a motive for the crime. There is a discrepancy regarding the amount: the father claims it was R$ 1,500, while the police report it as R$ 2,500. The victim’s family denies the existence of any romantic relationship between the two. According to the suspect’s father, they were merely former coworkers, and Joseane had a boyfriend. Hélio also revealed that his son takes prescription medication and is under the care of psychiatrists at a Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS). The court has ordered that Enatan undergo a health evaluation and that his treatment and medication be continued while he is in custody. Aftermath and developments The victim’s daughter, Natália Santos, expressed her anguish on social media: "Even his death cannot erase what I witnessed and what I carry within me. I have no tears left to cry. No amount of justice will bring my mother back." The municipal government of Santana do Ipanema issued a statement condemning the crime, and Júlia Nunes—a lawyer and newly elected federal deputy who is supporting the family—emphasized the importance of keeping the suspect in custody. The Civil Police are expected to summon Joseane’s boyfriend and other witnesses to provide statements in the coming days. The victim’s body was released following forensic procedures and will be buried in Maceió. The bladed weapon used in the crime has been seized, and security camera footage has been added to the investigation file.
