A Super Puma H-225 helicopter, registered as VH-HGM, crashed into the Barito River, while carrying out a forest and land fire suppression mission. The accident claimed the life of one Indonesian crew member, Yayan Supyansuri, who served as a crew member and navigator. The other two crew members, New Zealand nationals Hugh Pagi (pilot) and Mick Betteridge (co-pilot and technician), survived and were successfully rescued. The victim's body was recovered by a joint search and rescue team at 6:08 p.m. local time near Tabatan Village, Kuripan District, completing the evacuation of all three crew members. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
