The aggression occurred after a car chase motivated by reports of sexual harassment circulating on the city's social networks. The driver of a Fiat Uno was chased by locals after his photo was associated with reports of abuse against teenagers in the region. During the escape, he lost control of the vehicle and ran over a 12-year-old child who was returning from school on a bicycle. The vehicle only stopped after colliding with a wall, crushing the bicycle. The child suffered minor injuries and was assisted by his own family. Following the crash, residents surrounded the car, forcibly removed the driver and assaulted him with punches, kicks and pieces of wood. The Military Police were called to contain the crowd and ensure the safety of the SAMU paramedics. The outrage was so great that additional teams had to be deployed to protect the ambulance. The driver suffered severe head trauma, was intubated at the scene, and transferred in critical condition to Cajuru Hospital in Curitiba. The Civil Police are investigating both the allegations of harassment and rape against the driver, as well as the beating inflicted by bystanders. Videos of the assault are being used to identify the participants. The aggressors may face charges of serious bodily harm or attempted homicide, with aggravated penalties if the victim dies.
