Police identified the driver as Ali Hussain. The vendor, named Ravi Chauhan and known locally as a seller of 'sattu' (roasted gram flour), attacked Hussain during an argument over where the vendor had set up his cart. Chauhan used a sharp weapon to sever Hussain's head in the middle of the road, then paraded the severed head before hundreds of onlookers, leaving both the body and head at the scene.
