Security camera footage captured the moment when the woman, who appeared to be having a breakdown, walked down the street holding a knife and advanced towards three military police officers. The officers retreated and asked her to drop the weapon, but she continued to approach. At a certain point, one of the officers fired a shot at point-blank range, hitting the victim in the chest and neck area. She fell to the ground and died at the scene. According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP-SP), the police were called by residents who reported that the woman was threatening people in the area. The department reported that the police officer who fired the shot was arrested on the spot and taken to the Homicide and Personal Protection Department (DHPP), which is investigating the case. According to the Police Ombudsman, the agents allegedly mistook the young man's cell phone for a firearm.
