Officer closest to dashcam in that POV died, other officer lived. In June 2020 David Anthony Ware was pulled over a few blocks from his home by officer Zakershan in Tusla Oklahoma for an improper turn. Ware refused to exit the vehicle for towing so Sergeant Craig Johnson was called to the scene for backup. Both forms of nonlethal were deployed without major effect, when suddenly Ware reaches under the seat and pulls a pistol, firing multiple times. Both officers were found in critical condition and taken to hospital where Sgt Johnson underwent surgery before later dying to his injuries, fatal wound being a gunshot to his head. Officer Zakershan was grazed across the head and shot in the hip but survived and eventually fully recovered from his injuries. During the entire traffic stop David Ware was on the phone to his friend, Matthew Hall. At 1:14 you can hear him shouting 'Matt please'. Turns out Matt was driving to the scene from Davids house after hearing "escalation" over the phone. Just up the road as any friend would Matt allows his homie to jump in the whip after gunning two LE down, and they drove back to Matts place. Matt then realises what up and kicks David out but David left the murder weapon.. So Matt drove approx 30 miles to dispose of the murder weapon in a "very rural area between Coweta and Haskell." A manhunt was launched and 8 hours after the early AM shooting David was located and surrendered to authorities. When being booked into jail David was asked if he knew what he was being charged with and replied "Yeah, murder". In court it was noted at this time both officers were alive and David was only under arrest for shooting with intent to kill.. Later this same day in the afternoon Matthew Hall was located and his home searched. During his first interview Matt claimed he was asleep the entire time, but then admitted he picked David up and they went together to Matts house, he also said David made statements regarding killing officers.. David went on trial. The prosecutor asks for the death penalty, the county's first time in a decade. David was charged with First-degree murder, Shoot with intent to kill, felon possess firearm, possess controlled substance with intent to distribute and obstructing an officer. David got cooked and it only took 3 hours for his jury to find him guilty on all counts. Based upon aggravating factors of attempt multiple murder, previous felony history and {opinion: The victims being on duty cops} the jury found the death penalty appropriate as did the Judge, David received a sentence of Death for the first degree murder charge and life without parole for charges relating to officer Zakershan. Matthew initially received a charge of Accessory to Murder, but his lawyer argued because the cops weren't dead when bro skirttd off that it was actually Accessory to shooting to kill and the judge agreed. Matthew went on trial for 2x counts Accessory to a Felony namely shooting to kill, one count for the dead officer and one count relating to disposing of the murder weapon. The prosecution case lasted for 6 hours and all prosecution witnesses were police officers. The prosecution rest the same day trial started, then Matts defense called no witnesses. The following day closing arguments, 3 hour jury deliberations (same as David) and returned a verdict of Guilty on both counts, recommended 12 years for each count consecutively (24 total years). The judge agreed, defense said it should be 12 total yo its the same killing. This time judge dredd went against them and said because Ware wasn't in the car when the gun was disposed that makes it two acts, picking him up then driving yourself to dispose of the murder weapon. Hall was then sentenced to 24 years in prison. Hall filed an appeal and the courts agreed consecutive is wrong here yo, so they ordered full dismissal of the second conviction(?) as the appeals court lacked powers/the want to merge the sentences themselves. In October 2025 Matthew Hall walked out of prison 4.5 years into his originally 24 year sentence for 1 count of Accessory to a felony. Because after appeal he had a single count and his charge was downgraded from involving murder he did not have to serve 85% time and apparently did many programs and classes for extra days credit. He was eligible to earn 60 days a month in extra time and it seems he did so almost every month getting out just after 1/3 of his 12 year ending sentence.
