He killed Dewayne Tunstall at a home gathering around 1 a.m., then shot Richard Clark and Allison Parker later that day while driving around the city. Three other people were wounded. The shootings paralyzed Memphis, forcing a citywide shelter-in-place order, shutting down the public bus system, locking down two college campuses, and stopping a minor-league baseball game. Kelly carjacked at least two vehicles before police arrested him when he crashed a stolen car while fleeing. He had been released early from a three-year prison sentence for a 2020 aggravated assault conviction. Prosecutors announced they would seek the death penalty if he is convicted of first-degree murder.
