At approximately 12:05 PM, a silver SUV veered onto the sidewalk of Chang'an Avenue in front of Tiananmen Square in Beijing. It sped along, striking dozens of pedestrians. The vehicle was trailing a black flag with white Uyghur script. After hitting several pedestrians and crashing through a police guard post, the vehicle struck the guardrail of the Jinshui Bridge in front of Tiananmen Gate and immediately caught fire. Two people died, 38 were injured, and the three occupants of the vehicle died at the scene. The two victims were from the Philippines and Guangdong, China, respectively.
