Lawrence police received several 911 calls on Monday night reporting gun shots on Farnham Street, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office. Arriving officers found a 51-year-old man suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead. Elvin Joaquin Rodriguez, 26, was taken into custody on a warrant and later charged with murder. He is also facing charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. The district attorney's office identified the victim Tuesday afternoon as Alexis Rodriguez Martinez, the suspect's father. A not guilty plea was entered on Rodriguez's behalf at his arraignment Tuesday in Lawrence District Court and he was ordered held without bail. His attorney did not object to the prosecution's bail request.
