The first-person video footage that Kaminiski recorded appears to show him take several plodding steps toward the stag and raise his gun. Then, in a flash, the deer barrels toward him, knocking him off his feet and gouging his eye with an antler. The stag escaped, and a stunned Kaminiski lay on the forest floor, cursing in Polish and waiting for his companions to find him. Although the animal spiked the man's eyesocket with antlers, fractured his skull, and affected his meninges, it did not cause any damage to his eyeball - neither to the nerves, nor the eye muscles. The Polish hunter underwent surgery on his right eye and the crown of his head, and no permanent damage to eye muscles or nerves was reported.
